This manual applies to all products and services sold on or later than January 1, 2017.

The SteamaCo Platform comprises of three integrated technologies: bitHarvester smart meters, firmware onboard the bitHarvesters, and the Steama cloud software. Steama and controls and monitors assets through the smart meters. The current version of the bitHarvester smart meter is Version 5, which includes a communications unit (the "Core") and a metering unit (the "Edge"). The Core reports data to the platform and actions commands from the cloud through the Edges.

The software offers manual and/or automatic control, data visualization and data download capabilities. SteamaCo users can display or download any or all of the energy, payments and user data stored in the cloud, execute a number of commands to bitHarvesters and send bulk SMS messages to site users.

All code, databases and integration with 3rd party web services are developed, controlled and owned by SteamaCo. You can find SteamaCo’s Terms and Conditions online at https://steama.co/tcsc/.

In this manual, you will find:

  • An overview of SteamaCo’s bitHarvester v5 hardware, references to key documents, and installation guidelines for your site.

  • An overview of SteamaCo’s cloud software platform, which includes an online dashboard, billing integrations, and a full-stack REST API for programmatic integrations.

  • A guide to each feature on the online dashboard, which is your primary tool for interacting with the data and meters themselves.

The bitHarvester Version 5 is a networked smart meter which uses a star topology to connect many meters to a single central gateway. This gateway, the bitHarvester “Core” communicates with SteamaCo’s cloud software via 2G or SMS, and with “Edge” meters via LoRa packet radio.

LoRa is a long-range, low-power, wide area network (LPWAN) protocol. The bitHarvester’s LoRa communications use the unlicensed 868MHz frequency. LoRa communications enable the Cores and Edges to connect at ranges up to 3 kilometers with line-of-sight. Even without line-of-sight, Cores and Edges can connect at ranges up to 1 kilometer, allowing for more flexibility in site layout.

Online Dashboard

The online dashboard is accessible at app.steama.co.

You must have a username and password to access the website. Usernames will be provided upon request by SteamaCo in connection with an email address, a link is then sent to that email for the setup of a password to that user account.

You remain logged in until you click the Logout button under “Admin” in the sidebar menu. The next time you access that URL, you won’t need to enter your login information. Please keep this in mind if accessing the page on a computer that others may have access to.
